For the last 30 years colleges from all over the North of England have travelled to Newcastle upon Tyne to take part in a competition that showcases the new talent and skills of the students that will become the chefs and catering professionals of tomorrow.

Regular competitors include entries from such colleges as Newcastle, South Tyneside, Tyne Metropolitan, City of Sunderland, Darlington, Gateshead, Middlesbrough, Carlisle, Northumberland and Liverpool.

This event is unique in the entire North East region and is seen by many college lecturers and industry professionals as an essential part of the hospitality education experience for students.

The event also allows Hospitality employers, businesses and recruitment agencies to make valuable contacts with students and colleges and discuss each other's needs in relation to the trends of the leisure industry.

The college competition is held on the first day on of the programme and features a range of competition classes such as:

Live Cold Starter Class

Live Knife Skill and Drill Class

Live Decorative Sweet Class

Live Restaurant Dish Class

Live Larder Class

Live Vegetarian Class

Team Competition

Static Class 1 - Restaurant Plated Meat

Static Class 2 - Restaurant Plated Fish

Static Class 3 - Plated Scone

Static Class 4 - Restaurant Plated Dessert

(includes chef lecturer and student in the kitchen and a student waiter serving two customers and Live Flambé).

All colleges are encouraged to bring non-competing students with them on the day to give support to their entrants and to experience the excitement of live culinary theatre.
